RACE FOR LIFE also known as
RFL
What is the Race For Life?
It all started in 1981
when an avid 12 year old BMX racer from Michigan discovered he had
Leukemia. Todd Kingsbury was his name, and like many BMXers, he
had dreams of someday becoming a top pro in the sport.
Unfortunately, this dreaded disease would keep Todd from
fulfilling his dream.
When Todd`s friends and the American Bicycle
Association learned of his diagnosis, it was decided that an
organized effort should be made to help in Todd`s "Race for Life."
The first ABA "Race for Life" events were formed that year, with
over 130 tracks participating and raising funds for The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society® .
Ever since, the ABA has held a series of "Race for
Life" events nationwide to help in the fight to find a cure for
blood-related cancers. There are awards given to top fund raisers
which include t-shirts, jackets and trips to the ABA
Grandnationals of BMX.
Of course, the best reward of all is the
good feeling of helping others with Leukemia.
Get Involved
Did you
know you don't have to be an ABA member to race at the RFL.
Start Now
After you have received your collection envelope for the ABA BMX
“Race For Life”, you need to start collecting donations from your
friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses in your community.
Instruct the donors to make checks payable to the Leukemia “Race
For Life”. When you go back to the track, put all the checks in
the envelope but don’t seal it because the track operator will
have to verify what you have collected in order for you to be
eligible to compete for the ABA BMX awards that will be given
away. If you need more envelopes please
visit the track.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE also known as SCR
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL also known as SCF
Anyone can race at an SCR or SCF and you do not have to qualify to race
at an SCR/SCF and you do not have to be from Washington State to race
at a Washington State SCR/SCF. If you are not from Washington State
and you race at a Washington SCR/SCF, you are not eligible to compete
for a Washington title or number plate, but you are still eligible
to receive trophies and double or triple district points depending
on the SCR/SCF. If you are from Washington State, to
become eligible to obtain the State Championship title and/or a
State number plate designation, a rider must meet the following
requirements:
1. Race in the predetermined
number of SCR's, which in Washington is 3 SCR Races.
2. A rider may race as many SCR
events as they wish. Only that rider’s best finishes of the
required number of races within that rider’s respective State will
be counted going into the finals.
3.
Race in the State Championship Final event of his/her respective
State.

REDLINE CUP QUALIFIER also known as RCQ
ABA and Redline bring you the 2011 Redline Cup Series.
The Redline Cup Series involves a rider counting
his/her best score from a Redline Cup Race event (RCQ), according
to the RedlineCup/State/Provincial Points Table, and his/her
scores from Saturday & Sunday at the Redline Cup Final. Several
tracks in each state will hold a RCQ race, these races offer
Triple district points. You can race the RCQ even if you do not
plan on going to the Redline Cup Final.
In addition to awarding a Redline Cup jacket and
#1 plate to the winner in each age & skill level, ABA will award
Redline Cup #2 & #3 plates beginning in 2009 at the finals.
Finally, at the Finals, both Saturday and Sunday
will also offer quadruple district points for riders.

DISTRICT POINTS These
points are compiled yearly, (the BMX season is year-long, January
1st to December 15th). A rider's yearly points total will
determine the number displayed on the bicycle 'number plate' for
the following year.
All riders compete for awards and ABA points. Points are published
in the BMXer magazine which each rider receives monthly. There a
rider can check and compare his or her point standings with other
riders in their own district and across the country. The top ten
riders in each district will also receive a special top ten
district jacket.
